Kerugoya Boys High School Closed Indefinitely After Dormitory Fire
Kerugoya Boys High School in Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga County has been closed indefinitely after a fire razed down a dormitory on Saturday night.
Kirinyaga County Commissioner Hussein Alosow said the fire started around 6:30 pm when students were attending evening preps.
“We are yet to establish the cause of the fire outbreak, we are still investigating,” the county commissioner said.
The fire razed down all the properties in the dormitory, leaving 120 students with nowhere to sleep.
“We have been told to go home until further notice and our parents have received messages,” said one of the students as they left for home on Sunday.
Alasow had a hard time explaining to angry parents who arrived at the school on Saturday night fearing for the safety of their children and seeking answers on the cause of the fire.
He however assured that no student was injured during the incident.
“Nobody was injured. Give us time to investigate; let us not speculate,” the county commissioner said.
During Sunday’s church service at Kerugoya Catholic Church, the sponsor of the school, the father in charge advised parents and the school board to discuss the way forward after the dormitory was razed down.
Meanwhile, detectives said they have launched investigations into the incident.
